Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Hunt Seat Team
IHSA is open to all levels of riders. Riders interested in trying out
for a varsity position may do so during the month of September.
Non-varsity members are still active, competing members of the IHSA
Team. Varsity benefits include paid entries, lodging, and travel, plus
practice rides.
Interscholastic Dressage Association (IDA) Team
IDA is open to all levels of riders. Riders interested in trying out for
a varsity position may do so at the beginning of fall semester. The IDA
team consists of both varsity and non-varsity members. Non-varsity
members are still active riding participants. Varsity benefits include
paid entries, travel and lodging, plus practice rides.
Eventing Team
The Eventing Team is open to all riders interested in the sport of
eventing. Competition opportunities are available for students on both
personally owned horses and Otterbein horses. Varsity team members will
be chosen at the beginning of winter semester. Varsity members competing
on privately owned horses are required to participate in regular
lessons with an Otterbein instructor. If riding an Otterbein owned
horse, riders may be required to maintain a horse lease.
American National Riding Commission (ANRC) Equitation Team
The ANRC team will travel to the ANRC Championship horse show in April.
Riders will be required to attend extra practices and study sessions.
Riders will ride their own horse or one supplied by Otterbein. Students
interested in competing at the ANRC championships need to submit a
proposal to the Equine Science Department by the end of fall semester.
If riding an Otterbein owned horse, riders may be required to maintain a
horse lease.
Local Horse Shows
All active equestrian team members may have the opportunity to hone
their show skills at local unrated and rated horse shows. Riders will
compete on their own horse or one supplied by Otterbein. A daily lease
fee might apply. Riders are required to supply their own equipment.
About the Teams - All levels of riders including non-equine majors are encouraged to participate.
- Any Otterbein student can take lessons at the Equine Center. The
teams are open to all Otterbein students and students are eligible for
both regional and national competitions.
- To be eligible for the team, riders are required to register in at least two lessons per week.
