Ohio Athletic Trainers Association Student Research Award

Congratulations to Jenny Ruano and Kevin Gallagher who received the 2012 Ohio Athletic Trainers Association Outstanding Student Research Award on their research project “Comparison of the Triple Hop for Distance and the Y-Balance Test in Healthy Collegiate Division III Male and Female Athletes”.

Dr. Braun Receives Award

The Otterbein University African American Student Union presented the Carter G. Woodson Faculty/Staff Award to Dr. Rob Braun at the Black Baccalaureate Ceremony May 11th, 2012. This award recognizes a faculty or staff member who has served as a mentor and advocate for African American students. Congratulations to Dr. Braun.

 Best New Teacher


Congratulations to Dr. Shelley Payne, for being awarded Best New Teacher at the Academic Awards Convocation.

Health Summit

Otterbein students, lead by Dr. Shelley Payne, recently participated in a health summit. They discussed their internships and service learning experiences in the health care profession and promoted student cardinal experiences and partnerships with health organizations throughout the community. Community partners, Health Card Table members, and students were present for this event.

Nutrition Minor Added

Character Building in Athletics

Sport Management professor Dr. Greg Sullivan recently presented a breakout session on Character Building in Athletics at OHSAA Student Leadership Conference. The program was held at Kent State University. 

Ohio Minority Health Commission Health Fair

Public Health Education Intern Sheronda Whitner was charged with the task of coordinating Ohio Minority Health Commission Health Fair to kick off Minority Health month (April) as a part of her internship experience. Share Bac A Pack Update

Otterbein alumni and students are working together on a community engagement project- Share Bac A Pack- and were recently featured on the front page of the Westerville newspaper. Health Promotion and Fitness Major Kailee Miller and PHED alum Sherry Williamson are leading this effort.

Team Work, Motivation and Leadership

Guest speaker Trey McBane of Summit Vision, Inc. spoke about Team Work, Motivation and Leadership to our HLED 3800 Organization Management classes taught by MS. Wilson, Mr. Goodwin and Ms. Buffington. The class participated in a hands-on activity to demonstrate problem solving techniques in a group setting.

Awards

Congratulations to Dr. Shelley Payne, D.H.S. (Allied Health) and Dr. Robert Braun, Ph.D (Health) who recently received their doctorate degrees.

Congratulations to the Otterbein University Athletic Training Staff and the Team Physicians who received the Athletic Directors Award in a presentation before the Homecoming football game in October.

A State Farm Insurance grant is making it possible for a First Year Seminar class from Otterbein University taught by Ms. Patti Wilson, MS, CHES to work with a class at Emerson Elementary school on discovering their strengths and participating in a service-learning project to combat hunger.

Congratulations to HPF major Kailee Miller who received a $500 SODEX grant for a project she is working on in conjunction with The Center for Community Engagement on combating childhood hunger.
