As a junior public relations major at Otterbein, Meredith Ulmer has seen how leadership can impact her education. Ulmer has become involved in many activities such as Greek life, orientation and the Host and Tour program in the Office of Admission. Meredith has also participated in several internships including her most recent internship at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
“Since being at Otterbein I have truly found my leadership skills. I am still in shock that I am president of my sorority, Tau Epsilon Mu. I also could have never imagined myself as an orientation leader. However, the Orientation Leader program is where my leadership skills were brought to surface. With the help of an amazing team, partner and coordinators, I was taught how to be the best version of myself through leading others,” says Ulmer.
This spring, Ulmer was selected to intern at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. She will be working with the Strategic Partnerships Office (Philanthropy) through August 2013. Through this internship, she has already worked on some interesting projects things but the office is preparing for its biggest projects this summer. Ulmer will help plan and facilitate events such as Zoofari, one of the zoo’s largest fundraisers, Hoofit walks with Ohio Health and other various zoo ventures.
Ulmer says that her favorite part of this internship is working for a nonprofit while also getting experience with corporate Zoo partners. She also enjoys the work that the zoo does for conservation and getting to see animals almost every day.
“I’m looking forward to my future career even though I don’t really know where that will be! I am just excited about opportunities presenting themselves to me over the next year or so. I know that my education and leadership at Otterbein has prepared me for whatever my future has in store,” said Ulmer.
