2011 MLK Celebration Keynote Speaker

Photo of Ms. Vaughn-MgundaKeynote speaker Dana Vaughn-Mgunda touched on 2011's convocation theme, "Searching for Community: Redefining the Dream."

Ms Vaughn-Mgunda has a passion for educating the community on social justice issues. After obtaining bachelor degrees in education, black studies, and history, she joined the United States Peace Corps, where she served four years in Malawi as a teacher and teacher trainer.

Following her Peace Corps assignment, Ms Vaughn-Mgunda lived in Malawi, where she worked in a refugee camp as the Education Coordinator. During this time, she discovered a human trafficking trend affecting the camp's elementary school. From this experience, she has worked to educate people about human trafficking, gender violence, and social justice.
