Information and Technology Services

Information & Technology Services

Information Technology at Otterbein University provides services, input, and additions to the technology infrastructure in the teaching, learning, and work environment.

Cybersecurity Bulletin

Two hardware security vulnerabilities, Meltdown and Spectre, have recently been identified in the news. The hardware flaws reside in the central processing unit or chip. The chip functions as the memory unit and processes the computing of the device. In layman's terms, it is the brain of the computer. The devices affected include laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones. The Meltdown vulnerability affects Intel chips but Spectre affects all modern processors. These vulnerabilities may allow sensitive data theft.

Agencies responsible for public security have not reported any instances of exploited information. The current recommendation is for users to update all their personal computing devices to the latest security fixes as soon as possible. See this web page for more information on how to run an operating system update for your devices: Operating Systems Updates

University owned computers that reside on campus will update automatically.

A Skills building training program is offered to all Otterbein faculty, staff and student through the Cardinal Skills Builder Program.
