Office of Information & Technology Services

The mission of the Office of Information & Technology Services is to provide the integral services, support, and solutions to deliver current technologies that enhance the productivity and success of the teaching, learning, and work environment.

ITS is committed to provide a variety of technology services including online resources for teaching, remote learning, and collaboration. Our core IT infrastructure includes superior Wi-Fi, computer labs with the latest software, and innovative digital classrooms to advance student success.

To maximize our services, we provide free Office 365 for all Otterbein users. Students also enjoy free Windows 10, free printing services, and free help desk support. Students, faculty, and staff receive free online and instructor-led training programs for software and device usage.

There are several ways to reach our friendly ITS Help Desk staff. You may email, call, or visit our desk with no appointment needed. After hours, you may still send us an email or leave us a voice mail.

Useful Shortcuts

ITS provides access to systems and online resources for authenticated Otterbein users. Below are the shortcuts to the standard systems and services for your convenient logon.

Otterbein Intranet

My O-Zone is Otterbein’s portal and intranet for Otterbein authenticated users. My O-Zone connects you with all things Otterbein from information to news and events plus a portal to get to all Otterbein resources. Because it is role-driven, you will see the information customized for you depending on if you are a student, faculty member or employee. You can also easily access your Self-Service Banner account via single sign-on. Log in to My O-Zone and select Banner and no need to logon again or remember your ID number or PIN.

Online Learning

Blackboard Learn

Blackboard Learn is Otterbein’s learning management system. Blackboard Learn allows students and instructors to access relevant materialssubmit assignments, check grades and use tools like wikis and discussion boards from within a course shellAdditional tools like class calendarsemail and announcements help students stay informed throughout the semester.

Blackboard Ally

Embedded in Learn is a tool called Ally which helps instructors creates digitally accessible content, allowing students to download content in multiple formats (audio, video and print).    

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Also embedded in Learn is a virtual classroom tool called Collaborate Ultra. This tool allows students and instructors to meet and conduct live online class sessions and record videos which can be viewed at any time.

Training

Hoonuit is Otterbein’s professional online learning provider. Hoonuit provides online on-demand videos to build skills in software applications, Blackboard, digital technology, faculty development, student success, professional development, and compliance. Otterbein authenticated users can access the training programs and registration form on Information Technology’s My O-Zone web page.

Computer Labs & Classroom Technologies

Our digitally enhanced classrooms and labs have many features. Presenters and instructors may utilize an installed computer or bring their own and connect with provided adapters. There are eight public labs that feature Windows systems and enterprise software including Office 365, Windows 10, and Adobe CC. Black and white printing and scanning services are also provided in the public labs and Library. For those that prefer iMacs, they are conveniently located in the Library.  Campus labs are located in Roush Hall, Towers Hall, the Art & Communication Building, the Science Center, and the Library. In addition, there are numerous departmental labs with curriculum-specific software installed. Students do not need to purchase potentially expensive curriculum software for their own computing systems and may use the departmental labs outside instruction time for this purpose.

Online Portfolio

ePortfolios are content-sharing platforms designed to showcase evidence of learning and reflection along with your interests and accomplishments. ePortfolios employ a student-centered approach putting the student in charge and in control.  At Otterbein, we use Digication as our campus-wide ePortfolio system. Students, faculty, and staff can also create ePortfolios to work collaboratively with peers, manage learning activities, publish their writing or art, and even to promote student organizations, special projects, or campus-related events.  

The ongoing integration of this service with other university initiatives is coordinated by the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Ethernet & Wi-Fi

Note: Wireless gaming is not supported. Please use the wired Ethernet service in your residence hall to game online. Wireless media streamers are not supported. Use media streamers with Ethernet adapters.

Otterbein University provides a high speed 5G Wi-Fi network to all of the academic and administrative buildings, residence network, and select green spaces. Wireless devices connect Otterbein users to either “OtterbeinU” or “eduroam” with their username (e.g. smith1) when on campus and smith1@otterbein.edu when using eduroam off campus. Eduroam additionally connects Otterbein users at thousands of institutions across the world. 

    Online Information System

    Self-Service Banner

    Otterbein University uses the Ellucian Banner Self-Service software to provide secure, easy access for faculty, staff, and students to view and maintain their data in the Banner administrative database. Student Self-Service provides students with access to their student’s class schedule, grades, unofficial transcript, accounts receivable information, and the ability to register for classes. Faculty and Advisor Self-Service provides faculty access to their class schedule, class rosters, class wait lists, registration overrides, registration add/drops, curriculum information about their students, and the ability to enter and change grades. Employee Self-Service provides employees with access to their leave balance, pay stubs, benefit information, and W-2’s.

    Logons:

    Self-Service Banner Otterbein ID and Banner PIN required for this direct logon.

    My O-Zone Otterbein authenticated users can also access Self-Service Banner from My O-Zone which uses single sign-on. This navigation only requires your network logon.

    Student Printing

    For resident students, bringing your own printer to campus is not necessary and depends on your preference. Printing services are provided in public computing labs and in the Library circulation area. Students are provided 600 free black and white printed copies per semester, then there is a $.06/copy fee for extra printing. Color copies are available on-site in the Copy Center located in the garden level of Towers Hall. Price for a color copy is $0.18 per copy when printed one-sided on color copy paper. Additional cost will apply if color stock or photographic paper is requested. Students may print from their own Windows or Mac OS X computer using the PaperCut client.

    Software & Mobile Applications

    Free Software

    Otterbein faculty, staff, and students are provided a free Microsoft Office 365 account which includes 1TB of free OneDrive storage through Microsoft’s ProPlus Program. In addition to Office 365, Otterbein users can install the full suite of Office applications on up to 5 PC and/or Mac computers, and 5 tablets (iPad or Windows). Office mobile apps are also accessible on iPhone and Android and are automatically included with Windows phones.

    • Office 365 ProPlus for PC – full versions of Office 365: Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Excel, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Skype for Business and InfoPath.
    • Office 365 ProPlus for Mac – full versions of Office 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lync and Outlook
    • Office for iOS and Android tablets – create, edit, view and print from mobile-optimized versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote
    • Office Mobile for iPhone – Mobile versions of Word, Excel , PowerPoint, OneNote and Skype for Business
    • Office Mobile for Android phones – Mobile versions of Word, Excel , PowerPoint, OneNote and Skype for Business
