We know you’ve done this before. So we’ll make this quick. We’ll introduce you to our campus, answer your questions, and help you start writing your Otterbein story.

You bring an understanding of college life from your prior experience. Therefore, we have designed an orientation program especially for you. This program will help you understand the Otterbein campus community and connect you with the information that you need to make a successful transition. The program will for students beginning in the fall will be held August 9, 2013 and will begin at 9:30am and conclude by 2:00pm. Additionally, if students wish to attend a full-day session we invite them to join us on July 12, 2013. Please see the registration information below.

As a transfer student you bring an understanding of college life that new students have not yet learned. Therefore, the Otterbein Orientation Team has designed a program especially for you. This program will still help you understand the campus community at Otterbein and connect you with the information that you need to make a successful transition.

Orientation Schedule

During orientation you will meet with an advisor, confirm your course schedule, register for your student ID (Cardinal Card), meet other transfer students, and attend sessions that will prepare you for the expectations of Otterbein University.

Why should I attend orientation?

Orientation is a great opportunity to meet people and learn about life as a student at Otterbein University. At Orientation you will learn tips on navigating your new university system, on succeeding academically and on getting involved in campus life at Otterbein. Additionally, you will meet with an advisor and complete the registration process in preparation for the upcoming semester.
Am I required to attend Orientation?

No, transfer students are not required to attend Transfer Orientation. However, Transfer orientation is designed to meet the needs of transfer students specifically. It is a great way to help get you connected at Otterbein before classes begin.
How do I know what date I’m scheduled to attend?

A confirmation will be sent directly to you via your Otterbein email account when we receive your registration. If you are unsure that your registration has been received, you can call the orientation office (614-823-3202).
How will I register for classes?

You should contact by Mark Moffitt, Associate Director of Admission, at (614) 823-1500 to schedule a meeting where you will discuss registering for the academic year. If you choose to attend Orientation, you will also have the opportunity to work with the Registrar’s Office to discuss your schedule at that time.
How do I access my Otterbein email address?

Go to www.otterbein.edu/newuser and enter the PIN provided in your Welcome Letter. You will be instructed to create a unique password. To access your email go to http://ocwebmail.otterbein.edu and log in using your user name (firstname.lastname) and the unique password you created when you activated your account. Start good habits now! You should check your Otterbein email account daily, especially once classes start, for important information on campus.
Should my parents or family come with me?

This is a decision you and your family will need to make. There are informational sessions throughout the orientation day especially designed for parents and families. Each guest will need to pay the registration fee. There is a $40 charge for the first guest and $20 for each additional guest
Can I bring a friend?

All guests that accompany you to orientation will need to pay the registration fee. There is a $40 charge for the first guest and $20 for each additional guest. Be advised, guests will NOT be able to accompany you during the day. Parents, family and guests will be asked to attend the parent and family orientation that is scheduled for the day. You will begin the day together, but will not come back together until the end of the day.
What if I can’t come to Orientation?

If you are interested in attending and are unable to attend the scheduled date, contact the Orientation Office at 614-823-3202 and we will work with you to get the information shared at Orientation.
Am I required to attend New Student Week?

No. However, if you are interested in being involved in the experience and placed into a team please contact the Center for Student Involvement at (614) 823-3202.
Will I have my housing and roommate assignment in time for Orientation?

No. Your housing and roommate assignments will be complete in early August. During Orientation you will be able to see a sample room, but you will not have your official assignment. You will have an opportunity to interact with the Residence Life Staff and they will be able to answer your questions related to living on-campus.
