What is Marcive?

 

Marcive is a company that provides cataloging records. The OPAL depository libraries' subscription with Marcive provides ongoing catalog records for all federal documents received by OPAL depository Libraries from the US Government Printing Office, with the exception of the serials. The subscription covers materials since May 2000.

 

What Are Received?

 

SLS, Ongoing Full Records, Changed Records, All “Electronic only” records and Y1 Y4 records.

Who Is Participating?

 

There are seven partial depository libraries who are participating in the Marcive project. The names and their selection rates are as follows:

 

Blufton (12%)
Findlay (28%)
Malone (27%)
Mount Union (28%)
Muskingum (9%)
Otterbein (19%)
Wilmington (12%)

How to Identify Marcive Records in OPAL ?

 

The Marcive bibliographic record can be identified through the staff cataloging module by looking at the marc record. Each record should also have MvI in Marc 040 field, and a sudoc number in 086 field. The following identifiers are also used to indicate the suppression level for these records:

Why non Marcive libraries should also use Marcive records ?

 

We strongly recommend non Marcive libraries use the Marcive record for all government publications even if it is a brief record. The brief records are all be replaced by full records and using it decreases the amount of work needed later. Using the Marcive records will:
