Borrow Books Longer

All Otterbein Faculty, staff & students may now renew Ohiolink books and Otterbein owned items (except for reserves and equipment) six times, as long as another user does not request the same item. This ensures that you could have the capability to keep priint materials for the entire semester unless requested by another user. Note: Ohiolink media items still check out for one week with no renewals.

Some items may not be renewed due to their format or because they have been requested by another user. Please return items promptly, and request a new copy.

Create StoryOur New Reference Coordinator

Welcome our new Reference Coordinator Jessica Crossfield. Originally from Florida, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Photojournalism from the University of Florida in 2005. After working for four years in newspapers and educational publishing, she decided to pursue her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Kent State University. Jessica worked as a reference librarian at Columbus State Community College before being hired at Otterbein. In her spare time, she cooks vegan food, plays the ukulele, knits, reads, and enjoys live music.

Betsy SaltOPAL Service Award

Betsy Salt, Cataloger/Metadata Librarian, was one of the two 2012 recipients of the OPAL Service Award which was presented at the annual OPAL (Ohio Private Academic Libraries) Conference on August 3, 2012 at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. Betsy has been involved with the OPAL organization since the OPAL Cataloging Committee was formed in 1998. She has served on the Cataloging Committee continuously since that time and has also been involved with numerous OPAL subcommittees, task forces, and working groups at various times. Betsy made two presentations at the August 2012 OPAL Conference on the topics of her librarian exchange in China during the summer of 2011 and on RDA (Resource Description and Access), the new library cataloging code which is being developed by the Library of Congress and other national and international libraries.

The 2012 Wiley Ebooks

The 2012 Wiley ebooks are now available from the same website as their journals, Wiley Online Library.

Wiley Online Library hosts the world's broadest and deepest multidisciplinary collection of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences, social science, and the humanities. It delivers seamless integrated access to over 4 million articles from 1500 journals, over 10,000 online books, and hundreds of reference works, laboratory protocols and databases.

Alumni Authors

The Courtright Memorial Library continued to feature alumni authors for the Alumni Author Display throughout the summer. The summer began with the new juvenile historical novel, Conflict at Chillicothe by Karen Meyer ’65, being featured in June.

July’s alumni author, Bob Henn’57 wrote Lincoln and Darwin: Two Men Who Shaped the World. Bob visited the library and discussed his interest in Lincoln and Darwin along with the fact that the two men share the same birthday.

The month of August featured the first poet for the display, Melica Niccole Hampton ’04 and her book Poetic Outlets. Melica visited the library with her friends and co-workers and graced the library audience with two readings of poems from her book.

If you missed any of the alumni authors, do not despair - in honor of Homecoming, the Alumni Author Display for September will revisit all the featured authors beginning with our January 2012 author, Isabelle Ziegler. Stop by and see the display located on the first floor of the library next to the Reference Desk. If you would like to recommend an alumni author contact Elizabeth Zeitz ezeitz@otterbein.edu or Stacie Ladson sladson@otterbein.edu
