Tips for Faculty

  1. Place your supplementary materials or required readings on reserve at least 48 hours before your class.
  2. Find out who is your liaison librarian in your library "Faculty & Staff Guide to Services".
  3. Talk to your liaison librarian about:
  • Subject-specific orientation or hands-on instruction sessions covering relevant resources and library research skill to your class either in your classroom or one of the campus computer classrooms.
  • Purchasing materials for your class and adding them to the library collection for students use
  • Collaboration to design effective library assignments.
  • Consultations on resources and search techniques relevant to your research areas.

To many college students, libraries are mysterious places with seemingly random or even truly arbitrary arrangements of information. Frequently, they are hesitant to ask questions, unaware of the possibilities available to them, and even may experience great anxiety. We encourage you to include a library instruction session in your course outline and work with your liaison librarian to help your students become information savvy.

New Databases

Several new electronic resources are now available to OhioLINK users: AccessScience, the Britannica Online Set, Enciclopedia Universal en Español, the NewsBank Newspapers collection of 17 Ohio and 13 non-Ohio newspapers, and the Oxford Reference Online Core Collection. These databases are now listed under Research Databases by Title, or Research Databases by Subject pages. Remote access is also available.

Oxford Reference Online
Oxford Reference Online comprises over 1.5 million entries - dictionary definitions, facts, figures, people, places, sayings, and dates - from around 100 of Oxford's central English and bilingual dictionaries, usage, quotations, and subject reference books all combined to create ONE huge integrated knowledge resource. The service covers over 20 subjects in the humanities, social sciences, and science and medicine - from Art and Astronomy to Shakespeare and Zoology.

ISI Citation Databases are now available
Three databases from the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), Arts and Humanities Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index Expanded are now available through OhioLINK. These ISI Citation Databases collectively index more than 8,000 high quality, peer-reviewed journals cover-to-cover, providing complete bibliographic data, searchable author abstracts (science and social sciences), and cited references. These databases are now listed under Research Databases by Title, or Research Databases by Subject pages.

OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center

The four-millionth article was recently added to the OhioLINK Electronic
Journal Center. The EJC, which is now in its sixth year of service,
currently contains the complete electronic collections of 33 journal
publishers. Students, faculty, and researchers at OhioLINK institutions
