The MLA International Bibliography -

  • is the most comprehensive database for access to books, parts of books, articles and dissertations concerning literary theory and criticism, linguistics folklore, and the dramatic arts.
  • is published by the Modern Language Association (MLA) with indexing back to 1926 with over 1.8 million citations.
  • has international coverage.
  • includes almost 60 titles from J-STOR's language and literature collection with links to full text.
  • includes listings on rhetoric and composition, and the history, theory and practice of teaching language and literature.

Academic Search Complete - indexes many literary criticism articles and book reviews, and it is general resource that provides abstracts for over 4300 periodicals representing many disciplines with links to full text articles.


Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature 1920-1997 - ABELL lists monographs, periodical articles, critical editions of literary works, book reviews, collections of essays and doctoral dissertations published anywhere in the world. It has been printed since 1921 and is compiled under the direction of the Modern Humanities Research Association (MHRA).


Arts and Humanities Citation Search - a multidisciplinary database part of the ISI Web of Science covering the journal literature of the arts and humanities. It indexes 1,144 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals and allows you to search for the articles that cite a known author or work.


Gender Studies Database - produced by NISC, combines NISC’s popular Women’s Studies International and Men’s Studies databases with the coverage of sexual diversity issues. GSD covers the full spectrum of gender-engaged scholarship inside and outside academia. Several thousand links to freely available and indexed full-text articles and documents on the Web are available. Source documents include professional journals, conference papers, books, book chapters, government reports, discussion and working papers, theses & dissertations and other sources. Several hundred links provide access to carefully selected and important websites. This database includes more than 696,750 records with coverage spanning from 1972 and earlier to present.

Humanities International Complete - provides full text of hundreds of journals, books and other published sources from around the world. Produced by Whitston Publishing (an imprint of EBSCO Publishing), this database includes all data from Humanities International Index (over 1.6 million records) plus unique full text content, much of which is not found in other databases.


Iter Gateway to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance - an online bibliography of more than 600,000 records of books, articles, essays and book reviews about the literature, history and culture of the years 400 - 1700.


International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance with Full Text - an index to journal articles, books, essays and dissertation abstracts on all aspects of theatre and performance created by the Theatre Research Data Center (TRDC) at Brooklyn College in 1984.

JSTOR - check the Language and Literature journals and/or African American Studies, or Classical Studies to access full-text archived journal articles from their first volume, but not the volumes from the most recent three years.


Literary Reference Center - Published by EBSCO, it includes about 75,000 periodical articles of literary criticism, and the full text of the Bloom Series books from Chelsea House Publishers.
