Evaluating and Using Your Sources

Evaluation of resources is extremely important. With most books and periodicals, a publisher has reviewed the content prior to publishing the information. On the web, anyone can be an author, editor, or publisher (even you!!!). Therefore, for anything you find on the web, it is your responsibility to evaluate the information before you use what you found in your assignment. Ask yourself whether the book, web site or periodical can meet the following requirements:
It is written by an authority on the topic.
It contains accurate information.
It is relevant to your assignment.
It has a clear purpose (to persuade, inform, sell something etc).
The information it contains has been reviewed prior to publication.
