- Preplanning is essential when working with chemicals and other hazardous materials. Know what substances are in your work area and the dangers they present.
- To report any incidents, contact the Otterbein College Security Department at (614) 823-1222. Be prepared to provide information regarding:
- Location and type of spill
- Injuries
- Approximate amount of material involved
- Any identifiable reaction
- Who had contact with the spilled substance
- Equipment or processes containing hazardous materials should be halted and the area evacuated. To minimize contaminating others, remain in the building, move to an upper floor, and await further instructions.
- Close doors to contain the situation until trained responders arrive or you have knowledge that opening doors or windows to ventilate the area is appropriate.
- Account for everyone in the room and compile a list of all individuals who may have been contaminated.
- If direct contact is made with a spilled, hazardous substance, contact the Otterbein College Security Department at (614) 823-1222.
