Hazardous Materials Spill

Preplanning is essential when working with chemicals and other hazardous materials. Know what substances are in your work area and the dangers they present.
To report any incidents, contact the Otterbein College Security Department at (614) 823-1222. Be prepared to provide information regarding:
- Location and type of spill
- Injuries
- Approximate amount of material involved
- Any identifiable reaction
- Who had contact with the spilled substance
Equipment or processes containing hazardous materials should be halted and the area evacuated. To minimize contaminating others, remain in the building, move to an upper floor, and await further instructions.
Close doors to contain the situation until trained responders arrive or you have knowledge that opening doors or windows to ventilate the area is appropriate.
Account for everyone in the room and compile a list of all individuals who may have been contaminated.
