Policy for Reporting the Annual Disclosure of Crime Statistics

The Otterbein College Security Department prepares this report to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. The full text of the report can be found at www.otterbein.edu/clery.asp. You will also be able to connect to our site via the Otterbein College home page at www.otterbein.edu. The report is prepared in cooperation with the Westerville Police Department, Residence Life, Student Affairs, Business Affairs, and the Athletic Department. Each entity provides updated information on their educational efforts and programs to comply with the Act.

Campus crime, arrest and referral statistics include those reported to the Otterbein College Security Department, Westerville Police Department, designated campus officials (including but not limited to directors, deans, department chairs, Student Affairs, and advisors to students/student organizations, athletic coaches). These statistics may also include crimes that have occurred in private residences or businesses and is not required by law. Ohio law (2921.22 of the Ohio Revised Code) requires prompt, mandatory reporting to the local law enforcement agency by health care practitioners (such as those at Student Health Services) when they provide medical services to a person they know or reasonably suspects is suffering from wounds inflicted by a firearm or is a result of assault or abusive conduct. Student Affairs and Health Center staff inform their clients of the procedures to report crime to the Security Department on a voluntary or confidential basis, should they feel it is in the best interest of the client. A procedure is in place to anonymously capture crime statistics disclosed confidentially during such a session.

Each year, an e-mail notification is made to all enrolled students, which provides the web site to access this report. Faculty and staff receive similar notification with their paycheck. Copies of the report may also be obtained at the Otterbein College Security Department located at the Campus Center (194 West Main Street Westerville, OH 43081) or by calling (614) 823-1222. All prospective employees may obtain a copy from Human Resources by calling (614) 823-1805, and the website address is attached to employment applications.
