Urban Sociology Concentration
Urban Sociology examines the formation and structure of national and international cities as they are related global social change. Students study social and environmental impacts of urbanization on populations in relation to social problems that have distressed urban areas. This concentration is designed to enable students to:
- Apply theory to various urban problems such as homelessness, crime, poverty, globalization and environmental issues
- Construct analyses of urban policy issues and decision making processes as they relate to the resolution of the urban problems
- Critically examine factors involved in the global, historical development of cities as they influence the present and future
- Prepare for a variety of occupations in human and social service, nationally and internationally
- Prepare for graduate education in a variety of fields in the social sciences, business, law, or education
