2007 Summer Orientation for Parents and Family
When a student attends college, the family also experiences some changes. Students become more independent as they revel in and struggle with the responsibilities that freedom brings. At home, siblings take on new roles and parents have time to dedicate to new projects. Learning to deal with the changing dynamics provides both new opportunities and challenges.
Whether you are a first time parent of a college student or an experienced veteran of the college experience, each individual going to college is different. For this reason, Otterbein offers a series of programs specially designed for addressing a variety of family needs. Primarily, these sessions are geared toward parents, guardians, spouses and other adults, so young children may not enjoy attending these sessions. Family members may attend orientation sessions while their son or daughter participates in a parallel program. Sessions address academic expectations, student support systems and personal changes students experience during college.
