Akio Takamori: The Passenger

Posted Nov 01, 2019

August 26 – December 6, 2019
Reception: Saturday, October 26, 5:30p – 7:00p

Guest Curator: James Harris

A passion for observing human characteristics and behavior comprises the core of Akio Takamori’s (1950-2017) artistic career. Through figurative sculpture and works on paper—including several arresting self-portraits—The Passenger demonstrates Takamori’s artistic journey over the last few years of his life. As a Japanese man who made the United States his home, his work captures observations about the cultural differences and similarities between his native Japan and the West. As Takamori observed, we are all passengers on this earth. The exhibition conveys the links between cultures that unite us in what it is to be human.
