The exhibition 2(4)/7 celebrates the art and twenty-three-year career at Otterbein University of Professor Nicholas Hill, through the prints, paintings, collages, and mixed media works made during his highly productive artist residencies in India, Chile, Germany, and Japan. The artist’s cultural and aesthetic immersions are visible through seven series of artwork that interpret the people, color, and marks he encountered while abroad. Hill approached his work as Chairperson of Otterbein’s Art Department with equal creativity and fervor. He oversaw exponential programmatic growth, the renovation of the new Art & Communications building, the creation of the Miller Gallery, and the establishment of The Frank Museum of Art. Administrative and teaching duties consumed his days, as he worked through long hours for the benefit of the students, fellow faculty, and art communities in Central Ohio. Intending to retire after twenty-four years at Otterbein, in Summer 2020 Hill stepped back early in support of the University during the COVID-19 pandemic.
