Common Ground is part of Otterbein’s 2021 – 2022 exploration of Art for Our Time, and its art-fueled practices of deep listening to THE LAND. Brian Harnetty is an interdisciplinary artist working between sound, music composition, and socially engaged art. His practice works with sound archives and the communities connected to them, creating encounters that are rooted in place and the transformative power of listening. Common Ground features his acclaimed video Shawnee Ohio (2016 – 2021) and other Ohio-based sound works, including Forest Listening Rooms (2018 – present) and Moonshine Parade (2014).

Harnetty’s work at Otterbein in Fall 2021 includes multiple visiting artist engagements with students in classes across the curriculum, including Music, Art, Art History, the Sciences, Integrative Studies, First Year Experience, and other courses.
