ESL Program Director
Academic Support Center

Erin Holt Johnson has coordinated the ESL program at Otterbein University since its start in 2011. She has a B.A. in Linguistics from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and an M.A. in English: TESOL from Minnesota State University. Prior to working at Otterbein, Erin taught high school ESL in Iowa. While there, she received a grant to write curriculum for a beginning-language level, content-based, co-taught science course. She brought this experience in content-based instruction (CBI) to higher education at Otterbein where she initiated the creation of CBI coursework within the ESL program and co-taught art courses for degree-seeking language learners outside of the program. Erin’s focus is on best practices, creating engaging content while meeting language goals and supporting the greater university community. Her personal teaching interests include pronunciation with a focus on rhythm and stress.
