Off Campus Learning Opportunities in Modern Languages & Cultures

Study Abroad

We encourage our students to experience the languages and cultures they are studying first-hand by participating in a study abroad program. We offer opportunities for both short-term travel courses, such as Art History Travel to Spain, and for full-semesters abroad. Our students have travelled to Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Spain, and more!

Service Opportunities

The department mentors students in acquiring knowledge and developing skills beyond the classroom. We encourage our students to engage in a variety of extracurricular activities within the department, the university, and the larger academic/non-academic community.

  • Serve as a work-study tutor in languages in our department
  • Serve in our local chapter of Phi Sigma Iota
  • Volunteer for community activities related to local international cultures/communities

We are also working on several initiatives with local organizations in the Central Ohio area to provide further opportunities for our students.

Post-Study Opportunities

Our graduates have participated in a variety of service-learning and post-study experiences abroad! A few of them include:

  • Peace Corps
  • The Fulbright U.S. Student Program
  • The French Assistant Program

For every young American who participates in the Peace Corps – who works in a foreign land – will know that he or she is sharing in the great common task of bringing to man that decent way of life which is the foundation of freedom and a condition of peace.
