Patti Warashina: Conversations in Clay

Posted Nov 01, 2019

August 26 – December 6, 2019

Reception: Friday, October 25 8:30p – 9:30p

“Queen of Northwest ceramics,” “artistic icon,” and “acclaimed for a reason” are just some of the deserving epithets attributed to Seattle-based artist Patti Warashina. Featuring work from her spirited Conversations Series (2009- ), this exhibition highlights how Warashina’s skillful use of irony, humor, and puns in expressive figural vignettes transforms personal experiences of everyday life into timeless commentary about relationships, politics, and simply being human. Through juxtaposition, new work from the artist’s politically charged Cloud Bank Series (2018- ) amplifies the exhibition’s themes. This show was inspired by Frank Gonzales’ curatorial work at the Mesa Art Center, Arizona.
