“I still talk to my boss frequently, and she would do anything for me. We developed a really good relationship in a few short months.”

I signed up for several job recruiting sites including Indeed and Glassdoor. When I saw a listing for a designer, I personally reached out through email with an introduction, my resume, and my portfolio (whether they were looking for an intern or not). I was lucky enough to land an interview with KSC and ended up getting the position as well. I got the job due to lots of persistance!

I learned a lot about agency life and the demands of the market. I learned a little about politics because KSC specializes in political advertising. Overall, I learned how to meet deadlines, work as a team, and communicate with both coworkers and clients.

The most challenging part of the job was pleasing clients. Often times, their way was different than mine. Additionally, becoming accustomed to the lingo and nature of politics was very much out of my realm. My creativity was limited at times based on the needs of the industry.

Most of all, I enjoyed the people. I still talk to my boss frequently, and she would do anything for me. We developed a really good relationship in a few short months. I also enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and workplace culture.

Some advice to give – don’t be afraid to apply, apply, apply and be turned down hundreds of times. The right fit will show up with persistence. Even if the internship you land isn’t ideal, it’s not wasted. There’s still plenty to learn, and networking opportunities are everywhere.
