B.S. in Wildlife and Exotic Animal Veterinary Technology

The Wildlife and Exotic Animal Veterinary Technology (WEAV) major combines Otterbein University’s Equine Science and Zoo and Conservation Science coursework with Columbus State Community College (CSCC) Veterinary Technology courses for a unique offering. Students in this program will graduate with both associate and bachelor’s degrees. 

Students in this program will be prepared for careers working with a variety of species, and may choose to work at mixed-animal practices, small animal clinics with an exotic animal focus, wildlife rehabilitation centers, zoos, laboratories, and more.

Professional Preparation

  • Students graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Wildlife and Exotic Animal Veterinary Technology from Otterbein University, as well as an Associate of Applied Science from Columbus State Community College.
  • Graduates are eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and become licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT).
  • Otterbein’s Austin E. Knowlton Center for Equine Science offers hands-on experience with horses, as well as courses taught by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
  • CSCC’s Veterinary Technology program requires students to work with campus dogs and cats, and offers practical experiences with other domestic species, and courses taught by DVMs and RVTs.
  • Otterbein’s Zoo and Conservation Science program offers curriculum and experiences with wildlife and exotic species through partnerships with Ohio Wildlife Center, Columbus Zoo, and select species on campus. This program also maintains a myriad of internship partners with a wildlife/exotic animal focus.
  • Students are required to take an internship semester during spring of junior year. Students are able to select from 170+ sites that CSCC maintains contracts with, or request a new site.
