Student Health Center Update

Dear Students,

As we head into a new academic year, I am writing to announce changes to Otterbein’s student health services. Effective immediately, Mount Carmel will be providing virtual care and in-person visit options through their local Westerville healthcare providers. In a survey we conducted last year, it was clear that students wanted more flexibility in their healthcare options. These providers will offer an expanded array of healthcare services, as well as more flexible hours and virtual options. Free transportation to any Westerville area providers is available through COTA Plus an on-demand transportation system provided by COTA (www.cota.com/services/cota-plus).

During the fall semester, the physical campus health center will be closed. All the services that Otterbein’s campus health center offered and more can be accessed through scheduling a virtual appointment at  www.mountcarmelhealth.com/virtual-care/ or an in-person appointment with a preferred medical provider at one of three Westerville locations listed below. Otterbein students should call 614-627-2700 and identify themselves as an Otterbein student when making their initial appointment.

For those students who have weekly or regular medical needs, including allergy shots, we have established your ongoing care with Dr. Zaynab Zarrabi (listed above). You can have your allergy medicine or prescription sent to this provider and set up your appointments as necessary.

Students will be billed for services through their insurance provider. Students can confirm that their insurance is accepted by Mount Carmel by calling one of the physicians listed above. Most insurance providers are accepted regardless of whether the student’s permanent address is in Ohio or out-of-state. For students who do not have insurance or elect not to use insurance, emergency funds available through Otterbein can be requested to help provide payment to Mount Carmel.

The services offered through Mount Carmel are the most extensive Otterbein has ever been able to provide to our students, and we are excited for these opportunities. We will also soon provide more information about resources and services addressing reproductive health.

The FAQs below will provide more information about this change. If you have additional questions, please reach out to Dean of Student Julie Saker or me in Student Affairs at 614-823-1250.

Sincerely,

Dawn Stewart
Vice President for Student Affairs
