Alan Waterhouse, ‘82

Alan (Al) Waterhouse is President and CEO of AcuFocus. He also serves on the company’s Board of Directors. Since assuming this role in 2016, Al has been the driving force behind the restructuring of the company to reflect its current focus on the intraocular lens (IOL) marketplace.

Prior to joining AcuFocus, Al held numerous executive leadership positions for over 26 years in the healthcare and medical device industries. He has been instrumental in facilitating over a dozen mergers and acquisitions, raising significant venture capital and leading teams that have created over $4.5B in market value.

He served as divisional Vice President of Global Operations at Abbott Medical Optics, President and CEO of Asteres Corp, and President of PCI Services (Cardinal Health Company). Waterhouse is drawn to the vision care industry for its complexity and advances in state-of-the-art technology.  He serves on the boards of the University of California at Irvine, Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and Otterbein University.
