Associate Professor

Louise Captein makes abstract oil paintings and paper collages. Her works have been exhibited regionally and throughout the U.S in solo and group exhibitions and in The Netherlands. Her commissioned portrait drawings and paintings from the 1990’s are in private collections both in The Netherlands and in the U.S. For her hard-edge, abstract paintings she has won awards and honorable mentions. In the artist community, she is known for her small-scale paper collages which have been called quixotic, masterful and joyous. About her work she says: “My semi-abstract work comes from the realm of creativity; from looking at one thing and seeing another.”

Louise is passionate about teaching and designing creative assignments tailored to fit the needs of her students. She teaches courses in Painting and Drawing, Color Principles and she teaches Inquiry and Society: Fine Arts in the Honors Program. She also teaches in Integrative Studies.

Louise Captein is represented by Keny Galleries in Columbus
