Departments Collaborate on Season Premiere Production, “Urinetown, the Musical”

Posted Sep 23, 2025

The Otterbein Theatre Season opens with the popular satirical production “Urinetown, the Musical,” which runs Sept. 25-28 and Oct. 2-4 in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, “Urinetown” is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny.

While the plot of “Urinetown” brings citizens together for the common good, the production of “Urinetown” brings Otterbein’s Department of Theatre and Dance and Department of Music together to make world-class entertainment.

Tickets cost $30. The box office is open 12-4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and one hour prior to performances. It is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Student Rush discounts are available one hour prior to curtain, pending ticket availability. Visit www.otterbein.edu/drama to get tickets online.

NOTE: “Urinetown, the Musical” features satirical humor, strong language, and comedic depictions of oppression, corruption, and environmental disaster. The show also contains mild sexual innuendo and dark comedic themes.
