After two years of dedication and hard work, Otterbein sophomore Alina Baer self-published her third poetry and prose book, Water on Jupiter, in February.

In addition to Water on Jupiter, Baer has authored and self-published The Orange Crayon and Charcoal and Diamonds. All three of Baer’s works are available for purchase on Amazon.

“I really like poetry because it feels like an expression of thoughts. It doesn’t have to be perfect,” Baer said. “Life is never perfect and through poetry I can express things in a way that’s not perfect but still beautiful.”

Baer, a double major in art and journalism and media communication, is especially proud of most recent book, as it combines poetry and prose with her own photography. She hopes that the unique story found in this work inspires others and brings them joy.

“It’s a little book of moments and memories that I think can make a lot of people happy,” Baer said.

Baer encourages anyone interested in pursuing writing to go for it and says that even the smallest steps matter in the journey.

“Always share your voice because art can be powerful. It’s a universal language,” Baer said. “Whether it be art or writing, art has the power to make a difference and change the world.”
