Otterbein Honors the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Justice Award Winners

D’Andre Person ’26
D’Andre is deeply invested in student involvement at Otterbein University, and his commitment to building community and creating inclusive spaces reflects the very values this award represents. Through leadership roles such as Student Orientation Coordinator, Orientation Leader, and Peer Mentor with the New Student Transition Team, as well as serving as president of his fraternity, Sigma Delta Phi, and working as a Diversity Ambassador in the Office of Admission, D’Andre has consistently worked to ensure that students feel welcomed, supported, and empowered.
Academically, D’Andre demonstrates a strong dedication to excellence and scholarship. He is a member of three honor societies: Alpha Kappa Delta, the Sociology Honor Society; Lambda Pi Eta, the Communication Honor Society; and Alpha Lambda Delta, the First-Year Honor Society. His commitment to both leadership and learning highlights his belief that education and service go hand in hand.
Beyond campus, D’Andre aspires to become a broadcast reporter who not only informs the public, but also encourages communities to stay engaged, aware, and connected, a goal that aligns closely with Dr. King’s vision of an informed and active society.

Nina Goodlett ’27
Nina is an advocate for inclusive and engaging learning environments, both in the classroom and across campus. As a lead teacher with the Westerville Rotary, she empowers young minds while fostering strong community connections.

Micia Clemmons
Assistant Director of Student Engagement
Micia Clemmons is a cornerstone of the Otterbein community and a dedicated advocate for student success. As the assistant director of the Center for Community Engagement, she works tirelessly to ensure students have the resources, support, and connections they need to thrive — both on campus and beyond.
Her commitment to service, equity, and empowerment reflects the true spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Through her leadership and heart for community, Micia continues to make Otterbein a place where students feel supported, valued, and inspired to serve.

Eric Jones, Ph.D.
Chair of the Department of Communication
Eric Jones exemplifies the values of service, equity, and empowerment that define Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. As chair and professor in Otterbein’s Department of Communication, he equips students with the skills and confidence to succeed in today’s media-driven world while emphasizing the importance of media literacy and inclusive storytelling.
As advisor to WOBN-FM, Otterbein’s student-run radio station, Jones creates opportunities for hands-on learning and student leadership. Beyond campus, he volunteers with the Simba Advisory Committee at Franklin County Children Services, mentoring young boys and providing guidance on self-esteem and responsible social media use.
Through his teaching, mentorship, and commitment to community, Jones advances peace and justice by empowering students and youth to find their voices and use them to create positive change.
