Otterbein Summer Theatre presents “The Pirates of Penzance”

Posted Jul 01, 2022

Otterbein University Summer Theatre presents “The Pirates of Penzance” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7; 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, and Saturday, July 16; and 8 p.m. on July 8-9 and 14-16 in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Tickets cost $33. Call 614-823-1109 or visit www.otterbein.edu/drama.

Raucous pirates, bumbling police, and irrepressible sisters are clashing, chasing, and romancing on the shores of Penzance — all while a wily major general, a hapless sergeant, and a tempestuous pirate couple fight over an innocent young lad with an unfortunate birthday.

The small cast of 13 actors will bring Gilbert & Sullivan’s sparkling tunes to life in this swashbuckling masterpiece, including the tongue-twisting “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General,” and the not-so-stealthy “With Catlike Tread.”

The box office is open 12-4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and one hour prior to performances. It is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Student Rush discounts are available one hour prior to curtain, pending ticket availability.
