Theatre Season Opens with Sondheim’s Musical “A Little Night Music”

Posted Sep 20, 2022

The Otterbein University Department of Theatre and Dance is teaming up with the Department of Music to bring Stephen Sondheim’s musical “A Little Night Music” to the Fritsche Theatre stage. The show is based on a book by Hugh Wheeler.

Set in Sweden, “A Little Night Music” explores the tangled web of affairs centered around actress, Desirée Armfeldt, and the men who love her: a lawyer by the name of Fredrik Egerman and the Count Carl-Magnus Malcom.

When the traveling actress performs in Fredrik’s town, the estranged lovers’ passion rekindles. This strikes a flurry of jealousy and suspicion between Desirée, Fredrik, Anne (Fredrik’s wife), the Count (Desirée’s current lover), and Charlotte (the Count’s wife)! This web becomes even more tangled when both men – and their jealous wives – agree to join Desirée and her family for a weekend in the country. With everyone in one place, infinite possibilities of new romances and second chances bring endless surprises.

Tickets cost $30. Tickets are free to students, faculty, and staff with a valid Cardinal ID. The box office is open 12-4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and one hour prior to performances. It is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Student Rush discounts are available one hour prior to curtain, pending ticket availability.
