Otterbein Summer Theatre Presents “I Do!, I Do!”

Posted Jun 01, 2023

Join us June 1-4 and 10-11 for I Do! I Do!, a musical valentine and celebration of one couple’s 50 years of marriage.  Agnes and Michael, played by Musical Theatre majors Kateri Condon (’25) and Benjamin Hoover (’24), are two soulmates navigating the perils of life through the good times and the bad.

Kateri Condon

Kateri says she finds work with her character relatable despite the gap in age. “She (Agnes) goes through several periods of self-growth and discovery over the course of the musical.  At the beginning of the show, she is dependent, timid, and doting. However, as time passes, she ‘grows into herself’ and finds independence, confidence and self-love/self-worth.  I often observe myself following this same pattern of growth during different situations in my own life.”

Benjamin Hoover

“Covering 50 years is no easy feat,” agreed Benjamin,” but thanks to our wonderful director, Stella Kane, we’ve spent a good deal of time not only figuring out the physical processes of aging, but also the emotional shifts that come with them. We’ve been able to create a beautiful roadmap of 50 years of a marriage and have had quite a bit of fun in doing so.”

The two actors are excited for audiences to join them in the theater. “We think that audience members will see themselves or their family in these characters, and if we’re lucky, they might just walk out of the theatre holding their loved ones a little tighter than before,” Benjamin said.

Kateri added that I Do! I Do! “is a joyous exploration of the celebration of marriage and all the love, turbulence, compromise, dedication, and forgiveness that comes with the commitment.”

Tickets may be purchased at the Otterbein Summer Theatre box office in person or by phone Tuesday-Friday between noon and 4pm.  They are also available online at www.otterbein.edu/summertheatre.
