Assistant Professor
Department of Sociology, Criminology & Justice Studies
Dr. Buscariolli received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2025), his Master’s in Sociology from UCSB (2021), and his Master’s in Social Psychology from the University of Helsinki (2017). His Ph.D. graduate work addressed questions of police accountability and legitimacy. His dissertation used data from a police oversight initiative to examine how officers manage public complaints and how law enforcement agents and civilians may have conflicting views on what constitutes fair police conduct.
Part of his research also focuses on officer-citizen interactions, using a dataset of dashcam recordings. Some of the topics he has published on include how officers interact with citizens experiencing a mental health crisis, how they monitor civilians’ bodies upon stopping them, and how they extract information from GPS locational data.
Courses currently taught include Introductory Sociology and Introduction to the Criminal Justice System.
