Evan Thomas

Evan Thomas is coming to Otterbein from the Ohio State University where he received his PhD in Philosophy. He has broad teaching interests but especially enjoys teaching ethics and social justice topics. He teaches and mentors students in college classrooms, high schools, summer camps, and in public venues. Evan aspires to challenge his students to be brave, disciplined, and reflective thinkers. He has participated in animal rights, social justice, and environmental activism in Central Ohio since 2014 and has philosophical interests in these topics. In his research, he seeks to contribute to the project of expanding the canon in the history of philosophy to include the voices of philosophers marginalized on the basis of gender and race.

His current research focuses on early modern women’s views on nonhuman animals.
