Cardinals Flock Back to Campus

Otterbein University residence halls and sidewalks will be filled with busy students once again as they begin to move back on campus Wednesday, Aug. 17. More than 600 new first-year students will arrive this fall and will began First Flight, their official introduction to campus as well.

“First Flight is an important time for new students to transition to college with the help of student leaders prior to classes beginning,” said Assistant Director of the Center for Student Involvement Leah Schuh. “The week provides opportunities for students to connect with their academic department, meet with their First Year Seminar course and attend events to help them get acclimated to campus.”

This year’s First Flight program will include past favorite activities, but also new events like the talent show Friday, Aug. 19, providing new students ways to showcase their unique and noteworthy abilities and compete against their peers and First Flight leaders. Another new event this year is Party with Cardy immediately following the Friday talent show. Students can race in giant hamster balls, attend bartending school, try out the impaired driving simulator and hop in a go-cart with the Westerville Police.

Returning students move in on Sunday, Aug. 21, and students involved in athletics and other activities have already arrived on campus.

Classes for the 2016-2017 school year start on Aug. 22. After their first week of classes, all students are invited to celebrate at the First Friday Festival from 3:30-6 p.m. on Aug. 26 inside and outside the Campus Center. This annual tradition closes the first week of classes with activities showcasing Westerville businesses, campus organizations and the variety of ways students can get involved on and off campus.

Welcome back to campus, Cardinals! Have a great semester.
