The Courtright Memorial Library proudly presents the photography of Otterbein 2018 alumnus, Jacob Strous. We will be holding a reception for his display in the Becker Art Gallery, on the Lower Level of the Library, on March 5th from 6-7:30pm. Artist Statement:
“This collection documents moments of stillness and delight found while traveling through Italy and Colorado — quiet observations of color, light, and people moving through spaces. These photographs capture the immediacy of seeing: the vibrant facades of Burano, weathered stone archways framing Tuscan hills, and backpackers silhouetted on an alpine ridgeline.

Photography offers a counterpoint to my practice as a graphic designer. Where design demands deliberation and endless refinement, the camera allows for spontaneous response, requiring only my presence. Clean compositions and considered negative space reflect a design sensibility, but one operating through intuition rather than iteration.

The work explores how we move through unfamiliar spaces as observers, finding beauty in both the spectacular and the everyday.”
