Westerville, OH – The 2019 Otterbein Summer Theatre season will open May 30 with a revival of “Smoke on the Mountain,” one of the company’s most-loved productions since it was first staged there in 2002. David Caldwell, a 1986 graduate of the Otterbein Theatre program, will direct the rousing gospel and bluegrass family favorite, which will run May 30-June 15.

In this delightful tale of the Sanders Family Singers, the
audience is invited to go back to 1938 and pull up a pew for an evening of more
than two dozen songs, many of them vintage pop hymns. The more-or-less devout
members of the family don’t just sing, but also have hilarious stories, which
are delivered despite the mild protestations of the Reverend Oglethorpe.

The Otterbein Summer Theatre production of  “Smoke on the Mountain” will have performances at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday May 30; 2 p.m. on June 2 and June 9; and at 8 p.m. May 30-June 1, June 6-8 and June 13-15. All performances are in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove Street, Westerville.

Tickets are $33 each and can be reserved by calling the Otterbein University box office at (614) 823-1109 or purchased online at www.otterbein.edu/drama. The box office is open 12-4 p.m. Monday through Friday starting May 13 and one hour prior to performances. The box office is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove Street. Student Rush discounts are available one hour prior to curtain, pending ticket availability.
