Melinda (Mindy) Phinney earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Otterbein in 1985. She then furthered her education at Medical College of Ohio at Toledo where she received an MD degree. She completed medical training in Internal Medicine at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, where she also served as Chief Resident of Internal medicine. She obtained specialty training in Nephrology at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. Melinda has published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and has written two book chapters in medical texts. She has been in Nephrology practice at Northeast Ohio Nephrology Associates in Akron since 1995.

She has academic appointments at Northeast Ohio Medical University and Ohio University College of Medicine. She has served as Chief of the Section of Nephrology and as a Trustee on the Board of Summa Health System. She has been active in medical education throughout her career. Melinda’s family has a strong history at Otterbein as her father was a Professor of Life Sciences from 1962-1992 and served as a faculty Trustee. Her mother received a Bachelor’s degree in nursing at Otterbein in 1975.
