Pre-Professional Health Studies
If you are considering becoming a doctor, veterinarian, dentist, physician’s assistant or any other of the many health-related professional careers after attending Otterbein University, you are looking in the right place: we have various major options to help you achieve your goals! Your major should be in a field you are passionate about learning, so be sure to think about what classes in health studies really interest you. At Otterbein University, you will work with your academic/pre-professional health advisors to form an individualized 4 year-schedule of classes which will allow you to complete both the requirements for your major and the necessary pre-requisites for your chosen professional schools.

Bachelor of Science in Allied Health
This major will prepare you for graduate study in areas such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician’s assistant, nutrition and exercise science. You will develop expertise in human movement and human movement dysfunction. Allied health professionals may have direct or indirect contact with patients and be responsible for preparing and operating equipment, recording and reporting on patient response to treatment, assessing patient needs or analyzing data.

Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
This major will prepare you for application to medical, dental, pharmacy and veterinary schools, as well as graduate study in the sciences. This major examines life at the molecular level using basic tools from chemistry and biology to dissect how organisms, cells and molecules function. Although a rigorous major, you will have the flexibility to tailor it to your interests, and you will be required to complete a research project.

Bachelor of Science in Biology
This major will prepare you for application to medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, optometry and nurse practitioner schools, as well as graduate study in the sciences. The major provides you with a solid foundation in biology, as well as the opportunity to take specialized courses in more advanced fields. You will also be encouraged to participate in research projects and internships, and have the opportunity to take field and international travel courses.

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
This major will prepare you for application to medical, dental and pharmacy schools, as well as graduate study in the sciences. Approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS), this major provides you with a broad and rigorous chemistry education to give you the intellectual, experimental and communication skills to become an effective scientific professional. You will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art instrumentation and have the opportunity to participate in research projects with faculty.

Bachelor of Science in Equine Pre-Veterinary Medicine/Pre-Graduate Studies
This major allows you to meet the requirements for entry to graduate programs and colleges of veterinary medicine, as well as learn clinical skills under the guidance of a DVM. The major incorporates hands-on learning with horses at Otterbein’s Austin E. Knowlton Center for Equine Science. We boast a 90% acceptance rate to veterinary school as tracked since 2014, and graduates during that time frame have been accepted to over 17 veterinary schools. Our graduates go on to be equine veterinarians, small animal veterinarians, mixed practice veterinarians, large animal veterinarians, etc.
