Posted Feb 10, 2020
Anna “Ann” Medert Haidet ’36 passed away on February 3, 2020. At the age of 106, Ann was Otterbein’s oldest living alumnus. Ann majored in English and French and was president of EKT (Arbutus), Phi Sigma Iota, a senior class officer, and worked in the Office of the Registrar for four years. She met Walter Mickey ’36 at Otterbein; they married and had two children: Robert Bruce Mickey and Thomas Mickey. Ann became a teacher; later, she and Walter founded Consolidated Ceramic Products in Blanchester, Ohio. Walter passed away in 1970, and Ann and her sons continued to grow the business to worldwide sales. Ann remarried to Monte Haidet, a Denison graduate, in 1978. She was active as both a corporate and nonprofit board member (United Way, Central Ohio Heart Association of Clinton County, among others). She enjoyed spending winters in Naples, Florida. She had 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Ann was also one of Otterbein’s most devoted philanthropists, supporting the University’s campus and students through its annual fund—today’s Otterbein FUND—over multiple decades, through 2019. She was a contributor to the Class of 1936 Scholarship Fund and the King Hall fund. Ann was a member of the Joanne Van Sant Giving Society and the 1847 Society. The Otterbein community shares its condolences with Ann’s family.
The family requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Otterbein in Ann’s memory. Read Ann’s obituary here: https://www.geisenfuneralhome.com/obituary/ann-haidet
