Barbara Stoops, Class of 1976

Barbara Stoops ‘76 died January 31st, 2022. Barbara was born June 15, 1953 to the late Martha Sawyer (Nietz) Stoops and Walton Watson Stoops.
Barbara was enrolled for two years at The College of Wooster, then transferred to Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. She spent a semester abroad in 1975 in Dijon, France. Barbara graduated Otterbein in 1976 with a dual major in French and Spanish and was in the Theta Nu (Greenwich) sorority. Barbara taught foreign languages at the Catholic high school in Chillicothe, Ohio briefly, then returned to Pittsburgh. She also enrolled in graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and in 1998 was awarded a MSW degree.

Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers Richard Stoops and Ronald Stoops, her grandparents Harvey and Eva (Watson) Stoops and John and Ruby (Sawyer) Nietz, her uncle and aunt Chauncey and Genevieve (Bistline) Stoops, and her aunt Grace (Stoops) Kaufmann.
She is survived by her brother Jon Walton and his wife Carol (Kelch) Stoops, her sister-in-law Elizabeth (Brennan) Stoops.
