Charles Mohr, Class of 1959

Charles Mohr ’59 died March 4, 2021 at his home in Florida. Chuck was born on April 14, 1935 in Melmore, Ohio to the late Richard and Berniece Mohr. He was a member of the Melmore United Methodist Church, and graduated from Eden Local (Melmore) High School in 1953. While attending Melmore High School, he was a member of the County Championship basketball team. He later graduated from Otterbein College of Westerville, Ohio in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in education. While attending Otterbein, he was also a member and captain of their basketball team and played tennis. He later earned a master’s degree of education from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
Chuck started his career in education as a teacher for 5 years in the mid-Ohio area and enjoyed coaching Junior High basketball. He then became a principal for an additional 26 years after which he retired to his cherished condo on Singer Island, West Palm Beach, Florida. There he spent his days playing (and excelling) in tennis, winning many tournaments and trophies.
He would, from time to time, return to Ohio for school and family reunions or other events
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters; Phyllis Valentine, Deanna Koch, Vivian Weaver, and Mary (Polly) Ritchie. He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Christofer and Evelyn (John) Knaup, along with numerous nieces and nephews
