David Geehring, Class of 1948

David Geehring ’48 died March 6, 2021. David was born June 9, 1924 in Delaware, Ohio to the late Earl and Margaret (Adams) Geehring.
David honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II, where he became a wounded warrior. After the Army, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Otterbein College. He was involved in the Pi Kappa Phi (Country Club) fraternity, Leather Helmet Gang and the “O” Club.
David was the founder and previous owner of The Sweeper Company. He was very proud to be joined in business by his three sons, later on when his grandson joined in the family business it became three generations. David remained CEO until the ripe age of 90. David was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church as well as a member of the Michiana Men’s Choir.
David was fortunate enough to attend the Honor flight out of Florida. He always had a love for travel, which he passed on to his children; starting in the 1960’s with annual trips to California. They started wintering in Florida in 1980. Later in life David found much joy and love from his pen pal Madison, a great-grand-daughter.
David is survived by his daughters, Connie (James) Stephens and Cynthia Buda, sons, Douglas (Karen) Geehring and Jeffrey (Carol) Geehring, daughter-in-law, Marcia Geehring, brother, John (Beth) Geehring, grandchildren, Jennifer Bowes, Christopher (Janet) Stephens, Weston Buda, Katy Buda, Brian (Kristina) Vargo, Laura (Chad) Picking, Jarrett (Brandi) Griffee, Jeremy Geehring, and Indica Geehring, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia (Cade) Geehring; son, David A. Geehring; granddaughter, Vanessa Griffee; and sisters, Jane Noe Earnheart and Carol Green.
