Don Steck ’52 died September 29, 2019. Don was born June 6, 1930 to the late Zora and Bud Steck. He was a native of Brookville, OH, and a graduate of Brookville High School, Otterbein University ’53 and the University of Dayton ’79. While at Otterbein he was involved in the Student Government/Senate, Band, Choir, Sigma Zeta and Eta Ph Mu (Jonda) fraternity.
Don’s life was defined most by a sense of duty. Besides serving as a Boy Scout leader, he served his country in the Army before returning home to work at NCR.
He was proceeded in death by his first wife Mary Busch Steck. His aunt Sara Kelser Steck ’37 and uncle William Steck ’37. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen O’Hearn Steck, children Don J. (Sara) Steck, Melissa (Jeff) Ward, grandchildren Bethany Ward, Darian, Hannah, Emma, Isla and Jameson Steck, sister June (Maria) Steck and brother Gary ’60 (Bonnie ’59) Steck. Sister in law Bonnie Paul Steck ’59, cousins Gretchen Steck Horstman ’73, Katrine Steck Mescher ’72 and Fredric Steck ’69 also surviving Otterbein graduates.
