Donald W. Shilling ‘54 died May 17, 2018. He was born March 20, 1932 in Massillon to Willis F. and Olivia Edna (Baskey) Shilling. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Otterbein in 1954, he earned a master’s degree at United Theological Seminary (’57) and later attained his doctoral degree at San Francisco Theological Seminary (’78). During his time at Otterbein, Donald was involved in choir, the Sibyl yearbook, and a member of Lambda Gamma Epsilon (Kings). He was pastor at churches in Justus and Pigeon Run, a mission church he helped to build in Lexington, then to Independence, campus ministry at Kent State, Mentor, Firestone Park in Akron, and District Supervisor residing in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by his wife and fellow Otterbein alumna, Waneta Williams Shilling ‘54, whom he married on June 13, 1954; sons, Mark (Sandy) Shilling and Philip Shilling; grandsons, Chris Shilling and Erik Shilling; brother, Ralph (Marie Claire) Shilling; and sister, Jane Mazon.
