Dorothy Dreher Scales ’49 died Jan. 13, 2022. She was born in Rochester, New York, May 14, 1926, to the late Harry William and Edella Elizabeth Dreher. She attended Hunter College in NY City prior to graduating from Otterbein College, majoring in mathematics for five years. While at Otterbein she was part of the Tau Delta sorority and a Sigma Zeta honorary. She was later employed at NASA.
Dorothy was a loving, caring, hug giving, worshiper of the Lord. She found a house of worship in every town she lived. While residing in Wilmington she enjoyed attending services at Southside Baptist church.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John; her first-born Colonel David Martin Scales who perished at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, and her second son, Robert Scales; her three brothers, Robert, Donald, and William Dreher. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Tarascio and her husband, Christopher; Lisa Watkins and her fiancée Kyle Goldstein; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well many nieces and nephews. Dorothy often could be heard tell friends and strangers her “children and grandchildren were her jewels”
