Dorothy Potts Helman ’49 died Aug. 17, 2021. She was born on July 24, 1928 in Shelby County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ben and Florence (Gibbs) Potts. Dorothy graduated from Ft. Loramie High School as valedictorian and attended Otterbein College in Westerville, OH. Over the years she took an interest in reading, helping her husband with the family business, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Oran Christian Church, where she was active in the Women’s Group. She also served as a poll worker for many, many years at the Shelby County Board of Elections.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Norris Helman, a sister, Nancy Watkins, brothers-in-law, Bob McFadden and Lysle Helman, sister-in-law, Wauneta Helman, brothers and sisters-in-law, Margery and Marvin Wick, James and June Knouff, and Dale and Vera Helman, as well as several nephews
She is survived by six children, Patricia (Robert) Freund, Robert (Cathy) Helman, Susan (Timothy) Rickey, Carol Helman, Joyce ’84 (Preston) Powell, and John Helman, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is sister, Grace McFadden, brother-in-law, Emerson Watkins, sister-in-law, Cacelia Helman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
