Edgar Rarey, Class of 1952

Edgar Rarey ’52 died April 19. 2019 at the age 89. He was born on December 29, 1929, graduated from Groveport High School in 1948, received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Otterbein College in 1952, and a Master’s Degree from Ohio State University. During his time at Otterbein Edgar was involved in football and post-college was a member of the leather helmet gang. Edgar was inducted in the Otterbein Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011 for his impact on the football program. After earning his degrees, Edgar was employed by the Gahanna Jefferson School District for 62 years as a teacher, principal, and track coach. He also served for 24 years on Groveport City Council.

Edgar is preceded in death by parents Warren and Ruth Rarey, sister Jeanette Montgomery, and brother Lee Rarey. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Bob Cramer; granddaughter, Angie Cramer; great-granddaughter, Audrey Brown; sister-in-law, Gretchen Parrish; and nephews, Jay (Joan), Steve (Jacque), and Don (Gina) Montgomery.
