Harry Ashburn ’49 died October 2, 2022. He was born January 23, 1923, to the late Harry B. and Edna (Peters) Ashburn Sr.
Harry was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School, Otterbein College in 1949 and earned his master’s degree in Education from Ohio University in 1962. At Otterbein University, he was a member of the “O” club and Pi Beta Sigma (Pi Sig) fraternity.
He enjoyed a stellar teaching career beginning in Somerset School, then Lima Perry High School before joining the Piqua City School District from which he retired in 1985 as the principal of the former Bennett Junior High School.

Harry was a United States Army veteran having served as a Corporal during World War II. He served as a Director with the Ohio Association of Secondary School Principals and the Piqua Golf Control Board. He was a devout member of Hardin United Methodist Church. He enjoyed taking time to share his wartime experiences through programs conducted by Edison State Community College; and was proud to have one of his interviews held in the National Archives.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Furbee; Two sons, David (Tami), John (Joy) Ashburn; three grandchildren, Travis (Racheal) Mitchell, Christopher Ashburn, Shemeiah Macabare; and three great grandchildren Chessa, Jaycee, and Waylon.
He was preceded in death by a son, three sisters and two brothers.
